The records in this collection include the petitions supporting Crowley's candidacy and news clippings. Also included are taped interviews with eight members of the search committee: Arthur Baker, Charles Dreiling, Mary Ellen Glass, Maynard Hanks, Donald W. Heath, James L. Hendrix, Gerald W. Petersen, James T. Richardson. The interviews were conducted by the Oral History Program, and entitled Presidential Search Committee Memoirs, 1978-1979.

Governor's Day was an annual occasion for honoring ROTC cadets. The Presidential Search Committee was formed in 1978, with Mary Ellen Glass as chair of the committee. Joseph N. Crowley served as interim president, and then submitted his name as candidate for the permanent position. When Crowley was not listed among the finalists, petitions were circulated by students and staff to place his name on the final list to be submitted to the Board of Regents. The effort was successful, and he was appointed president of the University of Nevada on March 23, 1979. ...
